Based on an idea by Richard Lewthwaite this is a new page for Retrograsser which features Autograss cars that are CURRENTLY racing and embrace the 'retro' theme.

If you know of any cars that might fit the bill then let us know and we can search the web for some pictures - better still if you have some email us by clicking this link!

Most of these pictures have been kindly supplied by Jeffrey Parish - Cheers Jeffrey!!
This superbly prepared Class 4 Stiletto debuted at Evesham's meeting on 25/03/07 and is the latest in the long line of autograss cars stretching back to the mid 70's from the Grasby family. Darren's car is extremely well prepared with a flat floor space frame type design. I'm told it uses the engine from the E14 Holloway car from last year that was built by hillclimber Ben Boult.
Theres a short film on 'youtube' showing the build which you can see by clicking this link -
This is possibly the most crowd pleasing car in Autograss over the last couple of seasons - Chris Jones' Class 3 Morris 1000 with (I think) 16 valve Vauxhall power. Again this car is superbly prepared and brings an old design right up to date by taking advantage of contempary design and components. Kids love it too with it's 'Lightning McQueen' paintjob!
Along the same lines as the Moggy, this is Spalding racer Ian Clark's Anglia which Jeffrey Parish informs us may not race again. Apparently he wants to keep it as a show car and is replacing it with a Viva!
I suppose the 'retro' aspect of Dave Patrick's Class 10 is the front engined rear wheel drive configuration. This was the setup Dave used in his early seventies cars and he wanted his last car to be an updated version.
Another front engined Class 10 is Pete Bott's 'Beast'.
This car draws heavily on American Sprint Car inspiration and is very competitive
This is long time Teifi racer Kevin 'Tarw Bach' Phillips in his Volvo powered Mk2 Escort racing at the 06 Nationals.
This is Mark Littles Anglia (SL66) which he owned as a road car. He sold it to Richard Lewthwaite who put a cage in it and when Mark saw it again a couple of weeks later he decided he liked it so much he bought it back.
Steve Carpenters very quick class 3 Escort has been around for many years and can still produce good results
Mark Maynards Imp started life as a class 2 but has evolved into a very quick class 4. Apparently Mark has built an all new lightweight version which may make it's debut in late 2007.
After racing his previous Imp since the 70's Phil Kent commisioned this new bodyshell from DK Racing
Rob Holloway resurected this ex Fred Towey Stiletto that had sat in Fred's garden for 12 years and honed it into a race winner at top level. The engine is now in the Darren Grasby Class 4 and rumour has it the bodyshell was crushed...
Penhow racer Philip Bendall shows that theres plenty of life left in this tidy class 3 Vauxhall Chevette. Philip has the might of the 104 Royal Artillery Regt behind him as can be seen in the second picture
Here are a couple of pictures of Shaun Bennett's current Class 3. Its a volvo powered Mk2 escort that was bought from North Wales driver Lee Kent. Thanks to Mike Rankin from Central Scotland Club for the photo from his website.
Matt Harvey has sent in some pictures of his class 3 1979 Vauxhall Chevette powered by a 2 litre 16 valve XE engine. We saw the car racing at Evesham at the start of 07 and it was certainly on the pace at the sharp end of the pack.
This is Ludlow racer Eric Gittoes in what is almost certainly the longest serving autograss car still racing with over 30 years on the track. Thanks to Mark 'Virgil' Booth for sending in the picture. Visit Mark's site by clicking on the picture
Sent in by Mark Linsell CS4 this class 10 is driven by Willie Walker from Central Scotland . Its front engined and the photo was taken at the Scottish Open 16th/17th June 2007.
5 pictures from Rob Bagley who runs the excellent Raceshots website. R321 is long time MAP racer Gary Emms in his new class 3 Anglia. The build quality is very impressive and the car has already started winning.
The second shot is another of Darren Grasby's Class 4 Imp. It's a great picture and is our favourite car of 2007 so it had to be included! M808 is Dave Kings who was a Nationals winner in his modified Imp in 1979 with the Radford club in R399. Dave now races with the Melton club and is almost unbeatable round Evesham's Dodwell track. Finally theres another picture of Rob Holloway's now deceased Stiletto. Click on any picture to go to Raceshots website.
Thanks to Paul Hassell C10E for sending in these pictures of his 16 year old son Ollies new / recycled Class 4 Fiat 127.

Paul says - "Ollie is only 16 and with his hectic lifestyle of GCSE's and girls he decided he didn't have time to build a normal mainstream car and instead I bought him this car from ebay over the winter. We rebuilt the seized engine and treated it to a new coat of team colours ( including an airbrushed picture of his brother Josh's junior special on the bonnet) and he has just had his first ever meeting at the Bob Robins memorial meeting at St Neots last weekend".

Paul has some more pictures to send in soon, including his Vauxhall Viva class 7 (!) at the Tenby nationals in 87.
